This year we have more entries than we have ever seen, it reflects just how popular rowing is across the south west. At the event we have especially strong crews in mens and ladies fours and the sculls including from Exeter Anna Newton who has trialled for the GB squad and Ray Lowry, an amputee from the marines who is on a fast track pathway to the Para Olympics.

Record entry for the Regatta this Saturday

We have a record entry of competitors for Exeter rowing Regatta at Exeter Quay this Saturday – 13 July

Its ten years since we had an entry this large with 156 races scheduled, and it looks like this is part of the follow on from London 2012, in which GB had some outstanding successes in Rowing from the Mens’ and Womens’ teams.

We have had a couple of last minute adjustments to our programme – following success of mens and womens novice crews from Totnes moving up to Senior C. The umpires will be briefed on Saturday morning at 9:30 at the finish line/control centre.

All the final preparations for the regatta are being made today and racing starts at 10:30 am.

City of Exeter Regatta 18 August 2012 Cancelled
We conducted inspections on the physical condition of the regatta course on Friday 17 August.  In addition we looked at information from Environment Agency and updated weather predictions for how the river was likely to behave on the 18 August.
The river continued to rise all day on the 17th with debris being brought down the course. Heavy rainfalls were predicted overnight and later on the morning of 18th August for the Exeter area and Exe valley.

The safety of all competitors and officials is paramount. The Regatta Committee felt they could not guarantee safety and had no option but to cancel the Regatta for the second time this year. Inspection of the course on 18 August has indeed confirmed that this was the right decision.
City of Exeter Regatta Committee would like to thank all clubs for their support and hope to see you all next year.
